WebI'd guess that the Iron Realms muds are likely up there in activity since they're backed by a company that can promote them. Materia Magica has a decently sized player base too. My favorite muds, and the ones I consider to be the best have always been smaller, and roleplay focused. There's less of a demand for that I guess.
