Mechanisms of protein diversity
WebAug 19, 2008 · Our work suggests that there is considerable diversity in mechanism and capacity for disulfide bond formation across bacterial species. This analysis led us to the identification of a disulfide bond formation protein, the bacterial homolog of eukaryotic VKOR, which appears to be an alternative to DsbB in several major phyla of bacteria. WebJan 1, 2014 · Protein misfolding is now implicated in the progression of hundreds of diseases; indeed, it is involved in the majority of diseases not caused by an infectious agent. Our aim is to illustrate the breadth and diversity of the problem, using a select number of diseases with diverse underlying mechanisms.

WebApr 10, 2024 · In the Nature Cancer study, researchers led by Dana-Farber found that some tumors that test negative for the AR do express PSMA and that some AR-positive tumors don't – which led them to look for a control mechanism that doesn't involve the AR. Their search revealed that the HOXB13 protein as a key regulator of PSMA. WebAnalysis of the human genome has dramatically demonstrated that the majority of protein diversity is generated by alternative splicing of pre-mRNA. This powerful and versatile mechanism controls the synthesis of functionally different protein isoforms that may be required during specific stages of development from a single gene.
